CCHS Basketball Wrap-Up 2016-17

It is hard to believe another basketball season has come and gone and many are still longing for more time in the gym to perfect that jump shot but, the close of the season brings a great time to reflect and celebrate the many memorable games, competitions and team developments over the year.

Our JV Boys basketball team enjoyed another amazing season in the CISAA with a record of 5-1 and made it to and through the Finals, once again, winning the Gold medal and the Championship banner! This is the 3rd year in a row that our JV Boys have won the CISAA league! Their impressive competitiveness in the 3A, 4A tournament in the Okotoks Holy Trinity Tournament and their tournament win in Oilfields were definate highlights as well. The future continues to look bright for boys basketball here at CCHS!

The Varsity Girls began the season just hoping to be competitive in the CISAA and with a lot of determination and hard work ended the regular season with an undefeated record of 10-0! The girls finished the season with a Silver Medal after a heartbreaking loss in the finals and watched their hopes of a 6th place ranking in provincial competition slip away. It was hard to finish the year that way but the girls really did over achieve all season long with so many unexpected successes such as, winning the tournaments in West Island College and in Brooks! Our Varsity Girls will learn and grow stronger from all of the positive experiences they enjoyed this year!

The Varsity Boys began this season with high expectations enjoying 9 returning players from last year. Their enthusiasm was justified with a record of 7-3 and finishing with a Silver Medal, second only to the No.1 ranked team in the province, who also was in the CISAA league this year! Claiming the wildcard for 2A Boys Provincial competition the guys made the trip to Edson and continued to show their determination winning in overtime in their first game 98-91. After a very close but difficult loss to Millwoods Christian (81-78 - who went on to win Bronze) they rebounded in the last few seconds on a “miracle” 3 pointer to claim 6th over the home team in Edson in their final game!

It truly has been an amazing season of basketball and all of it would not have been possible without our dedicated, committed and enthusiastic coaches, assistant coaches, teacher sponsors and support staff.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the following people responsible for the success and character development of the players here at CCHS!
