Jane Niewenhuis Update - January 10, 2017
Posted on January 11th, 2017
Here is an update from Mrs. Niewenhuis everyone. Let's continue to keep her in our prayers.
Dear Family and Friends,
In the past 2 weeks, I have had a CT scan, an MRI, blood work and a Bone Scan. This evening, my oncologist called with some of the results. Of course I thought about all kinds of questions after I got off the phone, but those will have to wait until my appointment on Monday, Jan.16th. So here's what we know:
MRI: the small tumour on the brain has decreased in size but has not fully disappeared; however, it could just be scar tissue, so not to worry.
Bone Scan: showed improvement in the one spot on the spine but some "denseness" in another spot. However, again, this could be scar tissue.
CT scan: Because I was off of Crizotinib for much of December, Dr. Hao feels it is too early to really see what its effect on the tumour is. In the meantime there is a lot of fluid build-up in the lungs and she wants that drained a.s.a.p. I am happy with that because I'm sure that I will cough less without that fluid there. I will have a repeat CT scan in 6-8 weeks.
Blood work: My liver is managing on this lower dose of Crizotinib (200 mgs.) so I am (happily) able to continue on with this targeted therapy.
Like I said, we have more questions than answers, but will seek further clarification at Monday's appointment. Thank you for all your inquiries and expressions of love and concern. When asked how I am feeling, I say, "I still cough, but not as much; I still breathe heavily but not as often; and I am still tired but not as bad as I was in November!" I am okay.
I love you, Love, Jane (Mom)
