I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Wednesday Chapel

One of the things we are trying to do at Calgary Christian School is expose our students to the diverse richness in Christian tradition.  I know that some of our families observe Ash Wednesday already, and at our recent InspirAct Fair we had our Catholic school neighbours offer a unique service to us.

So, to inform us all, we've asked St. Gregory's School, located across the street from our Secondary, to lead us in a special Ash Wednesday chapel.  Their Principal, along with a Grade 9 Religious Studies teacher and a number of students will educate us about Ash Wednesday and explain what it means to them.  A Deacon from Holy Name Catholic Church will lead us in a ceremony where each student can receive the mark of the cross placed on their forehead.  When this is done the deacon or other leader will say something like:  repent and believe in Jesus, or remember that you are dust and to dust you will return.  If you prefer that your student does not receive ashes, they can either come forward for a blessing or stay in their seat during that part of the chapel.

It is my deep hope that God uses this chapel to help our students enter more deeply into Easter this year and articulate what it means for them.  Please encourage your student to participate and talk with them about the chapel Wednesday night.

As with all our chapels, family and guardians are welcome to attend.  This chapel will take place on Wednesday, March 1 at 12:45 pm at Emmanuel Church (3020 51 St. SW).

If you have any questions or concerns please contact Pastor Layne at lkilbreath@calgarychristianschool.com or (403) 242-2896, x342.

In Jesus with you,

Pastor Layne
