Mrs. Deanna Bergen
High School Science and Math
My name is Mrs. Deanna Bergen (formerly Ms. Fox), and I’m thrilled to be part of the Calgary Christian team again this year! I teach Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Psychology.
I grew up in Calgary and consider it home base, but I lived in Vancouver for four years getting my Bachelor of Science (Major in Biology) and then Lethbridge for one year getting my Bachelor of Education (Major in Secondary Science Education). I toyed with the idea of attending medical school and taught MCAT test prep for two years, but ultimately decided that my true passion was in teaching. If students have any questions about the MCAT or pursuing medicine, I’d be happy to chat with them about their career passions!
Aside from nerding out about science, I also have creative passions! I'm working on writing a fantasy novel, which I hope to have published in the next few years. I also lead worship at my church and sing in a choir.
As a teacher, I’m passionate about igniting student curiosity, fostering discussion that allows for respectful disagreement, coaching critical thinking, and providing students with a rigorous science education that prepares them for any level of further education they pursue. It’s my goal that students will finish my class feeling more competent as thinkers and learners.
